Oral arg. – MSSC – 9/26/2018

At 10:30 the MSSC will hear the case of Brett Jones v. State of Mississippi wherein Jones, who was 15 at the time, was convicted of murdering his grandfather and given a life sentence.  He was later granted a hearing pursuant to  Miller v. Alabama, 567 U.S. 460 (2012).  The trial court again sentenced Jones to life. The COA affirmed and the MSSC granted cert.  Jones is represented by Jacob Howard of the MacArthur Justice Institute. He is arguing that  ‘[t]he record shows that Brett is not ‘the rare juvenile offender’ for whom ‘rehabilitation is impossible.'”
