Ark. judge pleads guilty to federal bribery charges

Mike Maggio was a circuit court judge in Arkansas.  Friday, January 9, 2015, he pleaded guilty to federal bribery charges after taking $24,000 in campaign contributions in exchange for reducing a verdict against a nursing home from $5.2 million to $1 million (Maggio was campaigning for the Arkansas Supreme Court).

In August 2014, he stepped down from his position as a circuit court judge and agreed to never run again in an agreement with the Arkansas Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission.  He came to the Commission’s attention when he was exposed as having made controversial postings on an LSU fan site (“tigerdroppings”) under the name “geauxjudge.”  “His prolific comments targeted women, gays, minorities, welfare recipients and others. He also revealed the confidential adoption proceeding in Faulkner County of Charlize Theron.”  See story here.

I’d been following the story because this slimeball was in my class at Millsaps.

Maggio surrenders his law license.
